The accidental insight

Within our bodies there is so much sensation. Some of it we can sense directly but most of the background sensations that drive us are hidden .. obscured by instantaneous physical reactions - the tensions and reactions that twist us into our characteristic posture and attitude.

Easy upright posture may be easier than you think

Taking the time to tune into the way we feel as we move can enable us to notice the restrictions our unconscious tensions create and then to relax about them. You just find a way of moving with those restrictions and spread your attention around the rest of your body as you do.

It’s amazing to consider how the structure of our body affects the way we function and feel.

Adventures in the Jungle of your Brain

So our classes begin again this Thursday the 1st of February at 9.30am.

We'll be exploring the head and neck in this series. How, in the world of reactions, perception leads and the body follows. Of course a great deal of our perception comes through the special organs of sense in our head. It's an interesting thing to consider - how your head, or indeed you, are oriented to the world. Does your head face forward or is it turned away to the side? Are your eyes and ears squinted away or are you open to whatever you experience?

You may be a person who experiences problems on one side of your body. Could this have something to do with the way your head sits on top of your spine?

Of course there is something else about our heads that most of us, and certainly never boxers, consider very much. The contents!

Your Spine as wave and axis - Two connected lessons this week

Hello all,

This week we will be doing two lessons that are part of a series called 'Lowering the Head'. The first class will be on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm in my rooms on Avalon Parade. The second will be in the Recreation Centre on Thursday morning at 9.30am.

They are interesting lessons that will give a global perspective on the movement of your spine, head and limbs.

Posture and emotional growth

How can you change something you cannot feel? So many of the tensions that shape us are shrouded by a veil that lies beyond the realm of our senses. It's only through immersion and careful attention that we have any hope of piecing together the source of those behaviours that confound us. Feldenkrais had an interesting perspective on how this relates to posture.

We'll be exploring this in our next series of classes that begin next Tuesday the 11th at 6.30pm and Thursday the 13th at 9.30am.

Imagination trumps the will

Hello all,

Sometimes it’s hard to swim in the turbulence of life. It’s an immersive experience with currents that are hard to discern. One of the nice things about having a daily movement practice is that you train yourself to create stillness within the storm.

That of course, is one of the jewels in the crown. It’s a lovely way to be aware of where you are and to feel the roots of your connection to life.

A new online lesson and a dance of shadows at the door

Hello all,

Our bodies are a constellation of possible lives unfolding in time. We are a living history of the choices made at sliding doors.

Do we choose the same doors over and over again or is it possible to be more adventurous? Do we feel alive? Is this really our life or is it the life of someone else?

What are the triggers that make us choose particular doors? Perhaps more importantly what are the triggers that make us choose the same doors over and over again particularly when they’re not in our interest? I have released a new online lesson and tomorrow morning we will be exploring this along with our shadow.

Our next series of Feldenkrais classes will begin tomorrow night at 6.30pm and on Thursday morning at 9.30am. We’ll be exploring the connection of our hands and feet through the centre of our body. Now how does that relate to freedom from anxiety and the quest for effortless action?
